“To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.
1 Hear my cry, O God;
Attend unto my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed:
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For thou hast been a shelter for me,
And a strong tower from the enemy.
4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever:
I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows:
Thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
6 Thou wilt prolong the king’s life:
And his years as many generations.
7 He shall abide before God for ever:
O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever,
That I may daily perform my vows.”
The Land is not safe.
Our families are all in danger. The devil is like a roaring lion seeking to devour. The devil is like a murderous thief. The devil is a lying snake. The devil is the prince of this fallen world and is never satisfied by any wicked victory. He aims to threaten, steal, and kill. He hates God and, by default, all of the divine King’s image-bearers. That wicked prince Lucifer can not overthrow the King of Kings, but he will do everything he can to hurt the Good King by attacking His adopted children. That is why our families are not safe.
Many of our brothers and sisters have fallen in battle already. That Luciferian army attempts to isolate, overwhelm, destroy, and then drag your corpse through the streets to champion their supremacy over those self-proclaimed Christians. Your children are far too fragile to fight for themselves. Can you protect them?
There is a safe place.
The Lord is our strong Tower. You will never survive in the field all alone. You need to retreat to the Tower, where you have the supply to comfort and sustain your little ones. In that Tower, you will be armed for the fight with the high ground advantage. The Lord is that Tower, and the enemy could never breach its walls. Inside the walls, you can rest. Inside the walls, there is no danger to you or your family. The only possible threat to you and your family is if you leave the Tower.
There is danger within ourselves.
Christian, you must be on guard as you wait for your King to come again and defeat all your enemies, the world, the flesh, and the devil. You are not guarding against the wicked one as if he was able to topple your strong Tower. You are to guard your mind against your baser cravings. The enemy is outside your Tower, trying to convince you to come out. He wishes to convince you to make a truce, come down from the walls and play a little. Do not let yourself believe those lies. The Tower is where you and your family are safe from that Old Serpent. Do not forget how many of your brothers and sisters he has destroyed before you. He knows that He can not overcome you with strength, so he fights with his subtlety. Stay in the Tower and wait for your King.
Inside the Tower, there is no fulfillment of lust. There is no opportunity for sexual immorality while you’re inside the Tower. There is no opportunity for engaging in unlawful deeds. If a warrior in the LORD’s army becomes ensnared by the devil’s traps, it will happen after he has left behind the safety of the Tower. Your enemy has defiled all your Land, and they advertise the shameful opportunities that await you if you only leave that Tower. Don’t leave. Many boys and girls have wept lonely tears on account of their daddy’s foolish choice to go “for a little while.” How many marriages have fallen to ruin because a spouse decided to leave that safe Tower behind? Christian, you must be on guard because there is still danger inside that Tower that lurks within every saint’s breast. Be patient, and remember that the Lord will cleanse the Land, restore it to you, and you’ll be truly prosperous and blessed when the King returns to claim His rightful place as He reunites heaven and earth.
